Membership statuses reference
This page explains what each membership status means and what a member can and cannot do at each status.
Statuses

| Active | The membership is current and in good standing. | Full member access — events, directory, benefits, portal management. |
| Grace | A renewal charge failed and retries are in progress. The member is still active but a payment-warning banner appears throughout the portal. The system value is grace. |
Most portal features remain available — the member can browse, view their membership, and update their payment method. The member cannot register for new events while in the grace state. To restore full access, update your payment method. |
| Lapsed | The grace period ended without a successful payment — all retries were exhausted. | Read-only portal access — member can browse but cannot register for events or use member management features. The “Rejoin now” button links to the public sign-up page. |
| Expired | The membership reached its end date without renewal, or the grace period ended without payment and the lapse has been finalized. | Portal access is read-only. |
| Cancelled (ends {date}) | The member cancelled and the membership is scheduled to end at the expiry date. | Full member access continues through the date shown. After that date, portal access is read-only. |
| Cancelled | The membership has fully ended after the paid period. | Portal access is read-only. |
Note on application status: while an application is under review, you’ll see a “Pending” label on your application — but this is the application’s state, not a membership status. Once approved, the membership becomes Active. See Application still pending for details on pending sub-states, including when payment has been collected and held.
Grace period
Section titled “Grace period”When an auto-renewal charge fails, MapleGather moves the membership from Active to Grace while it retries the charge. During this window a warning banner appears throughout the portal and the member cannot register for new events. At M1, the grace period spans the retry window (retries at 3, 5, and 7 days after the first failure) plus a fixed 14-day window after all retries are exhausted before the membership lapses to Lapsed.
Configurable grace periods (to set a custom length) are a future feature.
Who sees the status
Section titled “Who sees the status”- Members see their status as a badge on the My membership page.
- Admins see the status for each member in the member database and on any household member roster.
