Set up a membership level

This guide shows you how to create a new membership level — the price, billing period, renewal model, and who can see it — so that members and prospects can join your organization.

Who can do this: Admins who can manage membership levels (org owners can by default).

  • You need an admin account for your organization.
  • Decide on your price, billing period (monthly, quarterly, annual, or one-time), and whether you want renewals to follow each member’s start date (Rolling) or a fixed calendar date (Fixed).
  1. Go to Memberships > Levels in the admin sidebar.
  2. Select Add level in the top-right corner of the page.
  3. In the Name field, type a name for the level. The name must be unique in your organization. Members and prospects see this name.
  4. In the Description field, type an optional description that members will see when they apply.
  5. In the Price field, enter the price. Enter 0 for a free level.
  6. Open the Billing period dropdown and select how often you want to charge members: Monthly, Quarterly, Annual, or One-time.
  7. Under Renewal, select a renewal model:
    • Rolling — each member’s renewal date is anchored to the day they joined. This is the default for most organizations.
    • Fixed — all members in this level renew on the same calendar date each year. When you select Fixed, choose the anchor date using the date picker that appears.
    • Lifetime — members pay once and never renew. Auto-renew and renewal reminders are turned off automatically for Lifetime levels.
  8. Under Visibility, choose who can see this level on the public sign-up page:
    • Public — anyone browsing your sign-up page can see and join this level.
    • Members-only — only existing members can see and switch to this level.
    • Invitation-only — admins must invite people to this level directly.
  9. Select Save.

You’ll know it worked when the new level appears in your Levels list and — if you set it to Public — on your organization’s public join page. Selecting the level name opens the level detail page where you can review all its settings.

  • “A level with this name already exists” — the name you entered is already in use. Change the name or select the link in the error message to view the existing level.
  • Price validation error — check that the price is a valid number (0 or more). Negative prices are not accepted.
  • Save button shows a permission error — you may not have the right permission. Ask your org owner to give you permission to manage membership levels.
  • Editing an existing level: if you change the Renewal model or Visibility on a level that already has members, a preview screen appears showing how many members are affected. Read it carefully before confirming — changes take effect across all active memberships on this level and can be reversed within 48 hours from the audit log.
