Check-in screen shows offline or no attendee list

The check-in screen is showing an offline warning or says there is no attendee list cached on the device.

There are two different states that look similar but have different impacts:

  1. Offline with cache — the device has lost connectivity but previously loaded the attendee list. You can continue checking in. A yellow banner shows headline “You’re offline” and body “Check-ins are queued and will sync when you reconnect.”

  2. Offline, no cache — the device has never loaded the check-in screen while connected. No attendee list is available. The screen reads: “No attendee list cached on this device — connect once to load it. Until then, record check-ins on paper and use manual search to reconcile when you’re back online.”

If you see the “You’re offline” banner:

  • Continue using the check-in screen normally. QR code scanning and name search both work against the cached list.
  • Check-ins are queued and sync automatically when connectivity returns.
  • If the yellow banner also says “Connect and refresh” with a warning about a stale list (more than 24 hours old), the cached list may be missing recent registrations. If connectivity is available, select Connect and refresh to update the cache.

If you see “No attendee list cached on this device”:

  • Connect the device to Wi-Fi or mobile data.
  • Reload the check-in screen. The attendee list will download automatically.
  • While waiting, use a different device that has the cache, or record check-ins manually and reconcile later using the Attendees tab on the event detail page.
  • Cannot connect to Wi-Fi or mobile data — use a different device that is already connected and has the cache. You can also print the attendee list from the Attendees tab on a computer and use it for manual check-in.
  • Stale cache warning will not dismiss — you can dismiss it and continue. The list you have covers registrations up to the last refresh time.
  • Sync pending indicator remains after connecting — wait a moment for the queue to flush. If it does not clear within a few minutes, reload the check-in screen. Check-ins are not lost — they remain in the queue on the device until they sync.
