Directory instance settings reference
This page lists every setting on the four tabs of a directory instance’s detail page.
To change any of these settings, see Create and configure a directory instance.
Overview tab
Section titled “Overview tab”| Setting | What it does | Options / notes |
|---|---|---|
| Directory name | The display name of the directory | Free text, max 80 characters; appears in the admin list and in member navigation |
| Who can see this directory? | Controls which viewers can access this directory | See Visibility scope values below |
| Allowed membership levels | For Restricted directories: which levels can access the directory | Multi-select; at least one level or tag required for a non-empty Restricted directory |
| Allowed tags | For Restricted directories: which tags can access the directory | Multi-select; can be used alongside or instead of allowed levels |
| Default sort order | The default order members appear in | Options include “Member name (A→Z)”, “Member name (Z→A)”, “Join date (newest first)”, “Join date (oldest first)”, and any active org fields |
| Members per page | How many member cards load at a time | 10, 25, or 50 (default: 25) |
Visibility scope values
Section titled “Visibility scope values”| Value | Who can browse | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Public |
Anyone — no sign-in required | Served with a 5-minute cache for performance and SEO |
Members only |
Signed-in members only | Changing from Public to Members only triggers a search-engine cache note |
Restricted |
Members whose level or tag is in the allowed set | Empty allowed-set = nobody can access (warning shown) |
Fields tab
Section titled “Fields tab”Each field in the organization’s member schema has four independent flags:
| Flag | What it does |
|---|---|
| Show on card | The field appears on member cards in the directory list |
| Show on detail | The field appears on the member’s full profile page |
| Searchable | Members can find others by typing keywords that match this field |
| Facet-filterable | This field becomes eligible to be added as an active filter on the Facets tab |
Additional per-field options:
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Drag-to-reorder (⠿ handle) | Sets the display order of fields on cards and detail pages; saves immediately on drop |
| Edit label | Overrides the field’s display label for this directory only (does not affect the field name elsewhere); leave blank to use the original field name |
There are exactly four flag checkboxes per field. There is no “Sortable” checkbox — sorting on any field type is available as a platform capability and does not require a per-field setting.
Facets tab
Section titled “Facets tab”The Facets tab lists only fields that have Facet-filterable checked on the Fields tab. Eligible fields can be added as active filters.
| Facet type | How it renders in the directory |
|---|---|
| Single-choice field (radio, select) | Radio button group or dropdown in the facet panel |
| Multi-choice field (multi-select, tag) | Multi-select checkboxes in the facet panel |
| Numeric field | Range slider or quartile-bucket selector in the facet panel |
If no fields are marked Facet-filterable, the Facets tab shows: “No eligible fields — mark fields facet-eligible in the Fields tab.”
Embed tab
Section titled “Embed tab”| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Allowed origins | The website domains permitted to embed this directory widget (CORS allow-list) |
| Members only (widget) | When on, the embedded widget requires sign-in even for a public directory |
| Embed code snippet | Copy and paste this code into your website to show the directory widget |
Websites not on the allowed-origins list see “Embed not authorized” instead of the directory.
