Session and redirect behavior reference

This page describes how MapleGather handles sessions — how long they last, where you go after signing in, and what happens when a session ends.

After clicking your sign-in link, MapleGather redirects you to the right place for your role.

Persona Default destination
Member /portal (member home)
Admin /admin (admin dashboard)
Board member /admin/reports (board dashboard)

If you arrived at the sign-in page by clicking a link from inside the app (for example, a renewal reminder or a deep link from an email), MapleGather remembers where you were trying to go. After you sign in, you’ll be taken there automatically.

This only works for pages within your organization’s portal. If the link points to a different website, MapleGather ignores it and sends you to your default home page.

Sessions end after a period of inactivity. When your session expires:

  • The next time you visit a page in the portal, you’re redirected to the sign-in screen.
  • An “You’ve been signed out after inactivity. Sign in again to continue.” message appears at the top of the sign-in screen.
  • The page you were trying to visit is remembered — after you sign in, you’ll go straight there.
Scenario What happens
You click the link on a different device than where you requested it The sign-in completes on the device where you clicked. Your original device is not affected.
You click a link that has already been used You see “This sign-in link has already been used or is invalid.” Request a new link to sign in.
You visit /sign-in while already signed in MapleGather redirects you to your portal home immediately — the sign-in screen does not appear.
You follow a link that points to an admin page but you’re a member MapleGather redirects you to the member portal (/portal) instead.
You follow a link pointing outside your organization’s portal MapleGather ignores the destination and sends you to your default home page.

If your membership has lapsed, your sign-in link still works and you’re taken to the member portal. The portal shows a message about your lapsed status — this is not a sign-in problem. See Membership shows lapsed or expired.
