Manage your email preferences as a member
This guide shows you how to control which marketing emails you receive from your organization — and how to unsubscribe from all of them at once.
Who can do this: Any signed-in member.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- You control marketing email categories such as newsletter, event invitations, donation appeals, and chapter updates.
- Transactional emails — receipts, password resets, and membership notices — always send regardless of your preferences. They’re required to manage your account.
- You can also stop renewal reminder emails independently. Other membership notices (like lapse notices and receipts) can’t be turned off.
Turn individual categories on or off
Section titled “Turn individual categories on or off”- Go to More > Preferences > Email preferences in the member portal. (On desktop, you may find this under your profile menu.)
- You’ll see a list of email categories your organization has set up — for example, Newsletter, Event invitations, and Donation appeals.
- Toggle any category on or off. Your preference saves automatically.
Stop renewal reminders
Section titled “Stop renewal reminders”- Scroll to the Reminders section below the marketing category list.
- Toggle Renewal reminders off. This stops reminder emails before your membership renewal date. Other membership emails — like receipts and lapse notices — still send.
Unsubscribe from all marketing emails at once
Section titled “Unsubscribe from all marketing emails at once”- Select Unsubscribe from all marketing emails at the bottom of the page.
- In the confirmation dialog, select Unsubscribe all. This opts you out of every marketing-class category. Transactional emails continue to send.
Unsubscribe from a single email
Section titled “Unsubscribe from a single email”You can also unsubscribe from any marketing email using the unsubscribe link in the email footer:
- Open any marketing email from your organization and select the unsubscribe link in the footer.
- On the confirmation page, your opt-out is recorded immediately — no form required. You’ll also have the option to unsubscribe from other categories on the same page.
Verify
Section titled “Verify”You’ll know it worked when a “Preference updated” message appears after toggling a category, or “You’ve been unsubscribed from all marketing emails” after the global unsubscribe. The toggle on the page reflects your new preference right away.
If something goes wrong
Section titled “If something goes wrong”- “Could not update — try again” — a temporary error occurred and the toggle reverted. Try again. If the problem continues, contact your organization’s admin.
- You’re still receiving emails after opting out — your preferences take effect for future sends. Any email already in transit before your change may still arrive. If you continue receiving emails after 24 hours, contact your org’s admin.
