Pause or cancel a member's subscription
This guide shows you how to pause a subscription temporarily or cancel it permanently from a member’s record. You can also resume a paused subscription.
Who can do this: Admins with the subscriptions:write permission (covers pause, resume, and cancel actions).
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Pausing stops charges temporarily without cancelling the subscription. The member continues to have portal access during the pause.
- Cancelling at period end lets the member keep access through their paid date. Cancelling immediately ends the subscription right away.
- All actions are reversible within 48 hours from the Unified Undo panel.
Pause a subscription
Section titled “Pause a subscription”- Open the member’s record in the Members area.
- Scroll to the Subscription section and select Pause.
- In the Pause subscription dialog, optionally select a pause duration from the Pause duration dropdown. Leave it blank to pause indefinitely.
- Select Pause subscription. The member’s portal will show a “Payment temporarily unavailable” notice while the subscription is paused.
To resume a paused subscription, return to the member’s Subscription section and select Resume.
Cancel a subscription
Section titled “Cancel a subscription”- Open the member’s record in the Members area.
- Scroll to the Subscription section and select Cancel.
- In the Cancel subscription dialog, review the warning — cancelling immediately is irreversible after 48 hours.
- Under When to cancel, choose:
- Cancel at period end — the subscription ends on the member’s next renewal date. The member keeps access until then. This is the default.
- Cancel immediately — the subscription ends right now.
- Select a reason from the Reason dropdown (required). Add optional notes in the Notes field.
- Select Confirm cancellation.
Verify
Section titled “Verify”You’ll know it worked when you see a success message such as “Subscription paused” or “Subscription cancelled at period end” and the member’s Subscription section reflects the new status.
If something goes wrong
Section titled “If something goes wrong”- “Stripe’s record differs from ours” — Stripe’s state was out of sync; MapleGather has now reconciled. The action may already be complete. Close the dialog and reload the member’s record.
- “You don’t have permission” — contact your org’s primary admin to request the subscriptions:write permission.
- Need to undo a pause or cancel — open the Unified Undo panel (within 48 hours of the action) and select Reverse. If the undo path would re-charge the member, you’ll see the exact amount before you confirm.
