Saved payment methods reference

This page explains how saved payment cards work in MapleGather, including what data is stored, the default card rule, and what happens when you remove a card.

To manage your saved cards, see View and manage your billing portal.

MapleGather stores a reference to your card with Stripe — your actual card number is never saved on MapleGather’s servers. For each saved card, you can see:

Field What it shows
Brand The card network — for example, Visa, Mastercard, or Amex.
Last 4 digits The last four digits of the card number.
Expiry The card expiry month and year.
Default A Default badge appears on the card used for your active subscription’s automatic charges.
Status Active cards have no status badge. Cards past their expiry date show Expired in red.

Only one card can be the default at a time. The default card is used for:

  • Automatic subscription renewals.
  • Admin-initiated charges on your behalf.
  • Any future charges unless you choose a different card at checkout.

You can change your default card at any time. When you add a new card and you have no other cards on file, it automatically becomes the default.

You can remove any non-default card at any time. To remove your default card, you must first set a different card as the default — you can’t leave an active subscription without a default payment method.

When you remove a card, it is deleted from MapleGather’s records and detached from your Stripe account. If you’ve previously paid with that card, your payment history is not affected — receipts still show the card brand and last four digits.

Some banks require extra verification (Strong Customer Authentication, or 3DS) for charges that happen without you actively present — for example, an automatic renewal. If your bank requires this for an off-session charge, MapleGather pauses the charge and sends you a verification link. Complete the verification to resume the charge.
